This notice explains what this website stores on your device, what leaves your device, and how to control it. It supplements our Privacy Policy.

It is written under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR) and the UK GDPR.

Cookies and similar technologies

A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to store, which is sent back to the server on subsequent requests. Local storage is a related browser mechanism that keeps data on your device but, unlike a cookie, is not transmitted to the server automatically.

PECR requires consent before storing information on your device unless it is strictly necessary to provide a service you have explicitly requested.

What this website uses

This site is deliberately minimal. We set no cookies at all — no analytics, no advertising, no profiling, no third-party trackers.

We store exactly one item in your browser's local storage:

This is a strictly necessary preference set in direct response to an action you took (clicking the theme toggle), so it does not require a consent banner. If you never touch the toggle, nothing is stored at all.

That is also why this site has no cookie pop-up. It is not an oversight — there is simply nothing to ask you about.

Third-party requests

We must be straightforward about one thing. This website loads its typefaces from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com).

Google Fonts does not set cookies, but making the request necessarily discloses your IP address, and your browser and operating system details, to Google LLC. Google states that it uses this only to serve the font files and for aggregate usage statistics.

If you would prefer to avoid this, you can block those two domains with a content blocker — the site remains fully readable and will fall back to your system typefaces.

We otherwise embed no third-party content: no social media widgets, no embedded video, no advertising networks, no tag managers.

Inside our applications

Mobile applications do not use cookies in the browser sense. They store preferences and content locally on your device using the operating system's own storage — UserDefaults and the Keychain on Apple platforms, DataStore and the Keystore on Android.

Where an application includes a web view (for example to display a help page), that web view is subject to the privacy policy of whatever site it loads.

Our applications do not use advertising identifiers and do not request App Tracking Transparency permission, because we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.

Managing your preferences

You can clear the theme preference at any time by clearing site data for this domain in your browser settings. The site will simply revert to following your operating system's light or dark mode.

General guidance for the major browsers:

• Safari — Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data
• Chrome — Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies → See all site data and permissions
• Firefox — Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
• Edge — Settings → Cookies and site permissions

Most browsers also offer a “Do Not Track” or Global Privacy Control signal. We honour these by default, in the sense that we do not track anyone in the first place.

Changes

If we ever introduce analytics or any non-essential storage, we will update this notice and put a proper consent mechanism in place before it goes live — not afterwards.
